How to brief an interior designer (a simple template)

The clearer your brief, the better the design. Answer these questions before your first consultation and you’ll save days of back-and-forth.

1. Who lives here?

Ages, pets, how often you entertain, where you actually spend time.

2. What works today?

Three things you love about the space. Three things you’d change tomorrow.

3. What’s the timeline?

Real deadlines (a baby, a holiday) vs. soft ones.

4. What’s the investment?

A range is fine. Honest is better than aspirational.

5. What does “done” look like?

A handful of reference images speaks louder than any adjective.
